Sunshine Frozen Yogurt and Smoothies, located in the Island Village Shopping Center, will close on Saturday, Sept. 9, owner Teri Dettmer said earlier this week.

Dettmer purchased the shop in 2015 from the original owner, Signe Sterner, (who opened the shop in 2010), after Sterner announced she would be closing the store.

In the next seven years, Dettmer said, Sunshine Frozen Yogurt and Smoothies would dish out 9,000 quarts of organic yogurt, 2,200 pounds of strawberries, 10,000 pounds of bananas and raise more than $60,000 for various charities.

The shop is for sale, and Dettmer said ideally a new owner who is likewise looking to keep the island institution going will step in to purchase it.

The store’s fixtures are also for sale, including tables, chairs, lamps, containers, blenders, refrigerators and freezers.
