In the Division III championship game, the Stars edged the Kings 6-5.

Scott Blake of the Kings led all scorers with three goals, while Daniel Perry and Kevin Keller added a goal apiece for the Kings as well.

Willie Hayward, Keith Mowell and Matthew Kundtz scored two goals each to lead the Stars to victory.

Perry had two assists for the Kings, while Mowell had two assists and Hayward and Scott Heinemann had one each.

“When the game is close and the pressure is on, the team that makes the least number of mistakes wins,” Stars head coach Pogo Knight said. “It usually comes down to defense and goal tending. We had both at a time when we needed them the most.

“In Saturday’s game, we came from behind facing a team that was confident that it was going to win. We proved that we could win against exceptional competition under pressure, and you will find that that is a rare and precious thing.”

In the Division III consolation game, the Wild defeated the Flames 6-5.

Ian Fullerton and John Windust scored two goals, while Braeden Shippen put one in for the Flames, while the Wild got two goals from Brendan Campbell and Charlie Klein.

Julia Chamberlain and Xander Tielman also scored two goals for the Wild.

Derry McDonald chipped in two assists for the Flames, while Fullerton had one.

Campbell had two assists and Jacky Sheridan had one for the Wild.

The Canucks defeated the Flyers 7-3 in the Division II championship game.

Nicholas Metzman had four goals for the Canucks while Connor Fling had two and Jake Brigham had one.

Eli Dingles, Austin Waite and Kenneth Dyer had one goal each for the Flyers.

In the Division II consolation game, the Senators defeated the Avalanche 5-3.

Duncan Hack had two goals for the Senators, while Nicholas Lacy, Aeden Vickers and Lukas Woltjer had one apiece.

Colton Bohonos, Nate Greason and Tyler Moniz had one apiece.

Hack also contributed an assist.

In the Division I championship game, the Islanders beat the Red Wings 3-2.

Michael Wilkinson scored two goals for the Islanders while Ruark Bohonos added a goal.

David Wolfson scored both of the Red Wings goals.

In the Division I consolation game, the Blackhawks defeated the Penguins 4-3.

Zach Dingles scored three goals for the Blackhawks while Andrew Yalung added in a goal.

Keats Hoonan scored two goals and Paige Brigham added a goal for the Penguins, while Luke McJunkin contributed an assist.

The recipients of the Mary Clare Award were also announced.

The award is given “to an individual who embodies sportsmanship,” wrote league secretary Jing Fong. “This player encourages and supports the team and its members in his or her unique and inspirational way.”

The Division III winners were: Wild: Casey Ogren, Kings: Daniel Perry, Flames: Ian Fullerton, Stars: Zach Paradis.

The Division II winners were: Avalanche: James Donella, Senators: Markus Woltjer, Canucks: Connor Fling, Flyers: Jack Wilkinson.

The Division I winners were: Penguins: Thomas Woltjer, Blackhawks: Andrew Yalung, Islanders: Aiden Dorsey, Red Wings: Ben Cowan.

Rope Skippers succeed at Orlando

The Bainbridge Island Rope Skippers had a successful performance at the USA Jump Rope National Age Division Championship and USA Jump Rope Grand National Championship in Orlando, Fla.

In the single rope freestyle category, Abigail Harrison finished 18th in the 10 and under age category, Emma Yearous was 26th and Sarah Sharman was 27th.

All three performed their routine without a miss.

Kelsey Gonwick was the highest finisher of the team as she placed 13th in the 11-12 category, while Ally Clement was 28th and Chloe Dolese finished 27th in the 13-14 category.

In the single rope pairs freestyle, Clement and Harrison finished 14th in the 12 and under category, while Yearous and Sarah Sharman were 35th.

In the double dutch single freestyle, Emy Mather, Clement and Harrison were 35th in the 12 and under category, while Lizzy Sharman, Izzy Kuniholm and Anna Canfield were 26th in the 15-17 category.

In the double dutch pairs freestyle, Gonwick, Harrison, Chloe Dolese and Emily Applewhite were 23rd in the 13-14 category, while Izzy Kuniholm, Lizzy Sharman, Clement and Harrison were 20th in the 15-17 category.

In the one minute speed relay, Harrison was 26th in the 10 and under category, while Anna Mather was 15th in the 11-12 category, setting a personal best with 278 skips.

In the single rope speed relay, Applewhite, Anna Mather, Harrison and Clement finished 24th in the 12 and under category, while Dolese, Anna Canfield, Sharman and Kuniholm finished 24th in the 15-17 category.

In the double dutch speed category, Dolese, Harrison and Brianna Christensen were 21st in the 13-14 category, while Canfield, Sharman and Kuniholm placed 28th in the 15-17 category.

In the double dutch pairs speed category, Christensen, Emy Mather, Sharman and Yearous were 28th in the 13-14 category, while Canfield, Anna Mather, Sharman and Kuniholm were 28th in the 15-17 category.

In the 3 minute speed category, Harrison was 24th in the 10 and under category, while Yearous was 29th.

Anna Mather was 32nd in the 11-12 category.

Ali Maier, a junior at Bainbridge and her partner Vanessa Herd were ninth in the pairs freestyle. Both are part of the Skiperiors team out of Woodinville, but Maier will return to the Rope Skippers next year.

OAR Northwest near the finish

With 811 statute miles left to go, the OAR Northwest team is still in the lead with a chance to break the four-man rowing record.

As of July 28, Team James Robert Hanssen, consisting of Bainbridge native Greg Spooner, Brad Vickers, Jordan Hanssen and Dylan LeValley are currently holding a 240 sm lead over Yorkshire Warrior and a 337 sm lead over Team Hesco.

Based on their race-to-date pace, they would arrive in England on Aug. 13 at 2 a.m. GMT with a total time of 63.4 days.

If they keep their current pace however, they’ll arrive on August 10th within an hour of the record.
