WEST SEATTLE – Once again, the Bainbridge volleyball team made it back to the district tournament.
Once again, they’ll head in as the second seed from the Metro League.
The Spartans swept the ninth ranked Nathan Hale Raiders Saturday at the Metro League tournament at West Seattle High School by the scores of 25-14, 25-10, 25-15, but were swept by the number one ranked Bishop Blanchet Braves by the scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-11.
Head coach Julie Miller said the team played well, but it “wasn’t as consistent†as previous games.
“I think the LaConner game was our most consistent game,†she said. “I think (against Blanchet) we had people play pretty well at times and not so well at other times.
“We just need all to be on the same page.â€
The Braves took the lead in the first game, but the Spartans battled back to tie it at seven.
The two teams traded the lead back and forth, but Blanchet took the lead on a Bridget Logan kill, then Bainbridge had a kill go out of bounds for match point.
In the second game, the Braves took the lead and didn’t let up, but behind the serve of Hillary Grant, the Spartans rallied from being down 22-14 to go ahead by one after a Marijke Schwarz-Smith kill.
But the Braves tied the game and the Spartans committed two untimely errors for the Blanchet win.
Hannah Stuart had 15 kills and 19 digs, while Kelcey Dunaway had 10 kills and two blocks.
Lindsey Bratonia had 12 digs, while Ally Post finished with 30 assists, eight digs and three aces.
With the second seed, Bainbridge gets a pass to the district quarterfinals, where they face Mercer Island or Ingraham Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Blanchet High School.
The finals are Saturday at Liberty High.
