Just three island roads remain closed Friday morning following a snowfall Thursday. A second blast of snow is expected to arrive Saturday evening.

Still closed are Bucklin Hill between Eagle Harbor and Lynwood Center, Koura Road between SR-305 and Fairmont Lane and Battle Point Drive from Miller Road to Beach Street.

Bainbridge City Hall is open Friday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting clear skies and below-freezing temperatures Friday and Saturday, with snow returning Saturday evening. Mixed snow and rain is predicted through Monday, with temperatures reaching the mid to high 30s.

Police responded to numerous accidents Thursday and expected roads to become more hazardous overnight as temperatures dropped.

At one accident scene Thursday, a parked Bainbridge police car was hit by another sliding vehicle.

Another collision on Koura Road near Meadowmeer Circle entangled more than six vehicles.

“Most of the drivers are doing well,” Police Chief Matt Haney said. “We’re advising, except for emergencies, that all drivers stay off the roads.”

“If you know of someone in trouble give us a call we’ll figure out a way to get there. Right now we’re mostly concerned if someone drives off the road and doesn’t have their cell phone on them to call for help.”

City road maintenance crews have been working since the early morning hours with sanders and snow plows to clear trouble spots.

Anticipating the snowfall and its potential to isolate areas of the island, the city distributed storm preparedness information to locations around the island Wednesday.

The fliers included tips on preparing for power outages and road closures, as well as contact information for local agencies. The fliers can be found at Safeway, Ace Hardware, Helpline House, the Bainbridge Island Commons/Senior Center, Walt’s Lynwood Market, American Legion Hall, Island Center Hall, Bainbridge Athletic Club – Meadowmeer, Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, Pt. Madison Lutheran Church, and Seabold United Methodist Church.

In the event of a extended power outage, the city will post bulletins at those sites with information about shelter availability and emergency response activities.

The flier can also be viewed on the city’s Web site
