Senator Murray slams ‘rubber stamp Republicans’

Washington state’s senior senator castigated Republicans on the Senate’s Finance Committee Wednesday following their closed-door vote to advance the nomination of Congressman Tom Price as President Trump’s pick to head the Department of Health and Human Services.

U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued a blistering statement on Finance Committee Republicans’ decision to ditch longstanding committee rules and advance the nomination of Price, despite outstanding concerns about the medical stock trades Price made while simultaneously legislating on health care policy.

The senator noted a report in the Wall Street Journal that said Price got privileged treatment and a discounted offer to buy stock in a biomedical company.

Murray’s statement: “It is appalling that this morning, Senate Republicans chose to overlook serious concerns about Congressman Price’s questionable stock trades, break longstanding rules, and hold a secret, closed-door vote to force his nomination through committee. Senate Republicans appear to have completely forgotten that here in the Senate, we have a responsibility to our constituents to thoroughly evaluate President Trump’s Cabinet nominees—not rubber-stamp them or cut corners to jam them through,” she said.
