The body of an adult male reported in Kitsap waters Friday afternoon was found by Port Orchard police in a patrol boat near Enetai Beach.

Authorities said the body may be the remains of Thomas Craig Vogt, 51, an East Bremerton man who was reported missing by his family June 20.

Friday’s search was prompted by a 911 call at 12:45 p.m. July 5 from recreational boaters near the confluence of Port Orchard Bay and Rich Passage.

Boaters reported seeing a body floating in the water off of NE Enetai Beach Road.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Port Orchard Police were dispatched. Marine 7, a Port Orchard Police patrol boat, arrived on-scene just after 1 p.m. and confirmed the 911 report, authorities said.

The body was recovered by the Marine 7 crew and taken to a dock at Illahee Road NE and Ocean View Boulevard NE. The remains were then turned over to the Kitsap County Coroner’s Office.

Detectives with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.

Searchers had looked for Vogt earlier in local waters, but the three-day search came up empty.

The search was launched two weeks ago in Sinclair Inlet and adjacent waters, from June 21 through June 24, following a report of a floating body. The search included the sheriff’s marine patrol and search-and-rescue units (diving and ground search), along with marine patrol boats from the Port Orchard and Bainbridge Island police departments, and aviation and patrol units of the Coast Guard.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said an autopsy of the recovered remains, conducted by the county’s forensic pathologist, is scheduled.

Authorities expect the coroner to make a positive identification of the remains and also make a determination of the cause and manner of death.
