Bainbridge takes first in 14 of 16 races against visitors from Friday Harbor.

The Bainbridge sailing team had the wind in their sails in two recent home regattas.

Against Friday Harbor on the Eagle Harbor course last Saturday, the Spartans took first in 14 of 16 races on a sunny day against moderate winds from the north.

With all 12 boats in action, Bainbridge dominated both the Vanguard 15 class and the Flying Junior class.

Carl Shorett and Amy Allen finished first in all three races of the fleet, racing Flying Junior races while Patrick Layton and Kyle Grosten took first in the first two races of the fleet racing V-15 event.

Adrian Mason and Haley Lane scored two second place finishes in the second and third races of the team racing FJs, and two first place finishes in the fourth and fifth races.

Against Orcas at Friday Harbor on Friday, 24 sailors from Bainbridge and Orcas dealt with gusty winds from the west and occasional clouds.

Several boats capsized thanks to the gusts, but no one was hurt.

Orcas did well in the fleet racing V-15s and the fleet racing FJs, but Bainbridge took first in five of the eight races in the team racing FJs and the mixed team racing events.

Emma Hartmann and Evan Stewart placed first and second in two races in the team racing FJs and took two second place finishes in the mixed team racing event for Orcas as they were down a few sailors.

The last home meet for the Spartans was yesterday against Port Angeles.
