Quarantine due to COVID case at Sakai

The Bainbridge Island School District posted an alert on its website Nov. 16 of a COVID-19 case involving a person at Sakai Intermediate School.

According to the BISD COVID data dashboard, 233 rapid tests were administered between Nov. 11-16 with two reported cases; one at Sakai and one of an individual not tied to a school.

On Nov. 17, there were 13 newly quarantined cases within the school district due to close contact, including exposures outside the BISD community.

The Kitsap Public Health District has been informed, and any close contacts to the individual have already been notified. If you were not contacted, you are not considered a close contact.

The person is not based in the school building. District officials declined to say more due to privacy laws.

A close contact is someone who was exposed to a person with COVID and someone who was within 6 feet of a COVID case for 15 cumulative minutes or more over a 24-hour period during the infectious period.

In a K-12 indoor classroom, the close contact definition excludes students who were at least 3 feet away from an infected student when both students were consistently and correctly wearing face coverings/masks.
