No one hurt in Bainbridge fire

A fire at a home on High School Loop was quickly extinguished Wednesday morning by Bainbridge Island firefighters.

Two people were in the residence at the time, but no one was hurt in the fire, which officials said was “unintentional.”

Assistant Chief Jared Moravec of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department said units were dispatched to the home at 6:03 a.m. Jan. 16.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the home.

Moravec said emergency responders “made a quick interior attack on the fire and were able to contain most of the damage to a single bedroom.”

Damage to the home was estimated to be approximately $20,000, Moravec said.

He also said the home had smoke alarms but they were not in working order.

Multiple units responded to the fire, and the Bainbridge department was assisted by crews from North Kitsap & Fire Rescue and the Poulsbo Fire Department.

Moravec said 20 personnel were called to the scene. He also said the exact cause of the blaze was unable to be determined due to damage in the area of its origin.
