Boaters in the waters of Port Orchard Bay and in Rich Passage off Bainbridge Island reported seeing a body in the water just after noon Friday.

Boaters in the waters of Port Orchard Bay and in Rich Passage off Bainbridge Island reported seeing a body in the water just after noon Friday.

Deputy Sheriff Scott Wilson of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said authorities were notified at 12:45 p.m. July 5 of the body.

The exact location could not be confirmed early Friday afternoon.

“I’m getting various report stating it’s in Rich Passage and others saying it’s elsewhere,” Wilson said.

Wilson said the Port Orchard Police Department, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue have been dispatched to the incident.

Initial reports said the body was sighted near Enetai Beach, just south of Illahee State Park.

Wilson said early reports indicated the body was a male.

He also said it was too soon to say if the person sighted Friday was

Thomas Craig Vogt, an East Bremerton man who was reported missing two weeks ago.

Vogt, 51, was last seen at his mother’s residence in the 600 block of NE Saturn Lane, East Bremerton, the morning of June 20.

“This may be him or it may be somebody else,” Wilson said.

That will remain unknown, Wilson said, until the body is recovered and it is examined by the county medical examiner.
