Kilton, of Ericksen Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the vehicle, which had been traveling northbound on Ferncliff, negotiated most of the turn onto Lofgren before leaving the road and striking a tree head-on.Kilton’s 4-year-old son, the only other occupant of the vehicle, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of multiple fractures and serious internal injuries. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt.We are investigating the presence of alcohol, said Police Chief Bill Cooper, who said there was a strong smell on the victim and a dozen or more beer cans in the vehicle. Blood-alcohol level results were not available at press time.Police said Kilton was driving with a suspended license, for failure to appear in court for unpaid traffic tickets.It marked the third fatal accident on Bainbridge Island in the last 10 months.
