Locals protest Capitol insurrection

A protest took place on Bainbridge Island Jan. 6 and at over 300 locations nationwide on the one-year anniversary of the insurrection of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Senators and representatives from both parties had to flee as the Capitol was taken over during a violent protest as the Electoral College was being verified to make Joe Biden president.

“We live in a young democracy that will not last if we allow the certification of a new president to be stopped,” said Holly Brewer, who helped to organize the local protest.

Brewer urges locals to help save the democracy by urging passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Acts.

To do that:

•Contact our senators and urge them to eliminate the filibuster to move the voting rights bills forward.

•Sign a petition to urge elimination of the filibuster at https://bitly.ly/3eXAet4.

•Contact the Department of Justice to demand that all perpetrators be investigated and tried in a court of law at https://bit.ly.3G2slhT
