Levy increase is the topic at special program

Kitsap County officials will talk at a special program in February to explain the higher property tax bills that Kitsap residents will face as a result of the Legislature’s passage last year of a bill that authorized a statewide property tax increase to fund basic education.

The increase is intended to limit school districts’ reliance on local school maintenance and operations levies.

The meeting, co-sponsored by Kitsap Regional Library and the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Bainbridge Island Library.

The program is called “The Impact of the State Levy to Fund Education.” Kitsap County Treasurer Meredith Green and Kitsap County Assessor Phil Cook have been invited to sahre information and their analyses of the tax changes.
