Bail was set at $250,000 for a 56-year-old Kingston man charged in Kitsap County Superior Court June 1 with first-degree assault and felony harassment threat to kill.

He faces life in prison and $60,000 in fines if convicted.

On May 31 at 9:39 p.m. Kitsap County deputies were dispatched to Little Boston Road. The caller said a man was firing a gun into a vacant nearby property.

When officers arrived, the husband said the neighbor shot in their general direction when his wife was watering the lawn earlier. They were packing up to leave.

A deputy grabbed his pepperball launcher as a less-lethal tool. As police approached the man with the 9mm gun he said, “You are all gunna die,” the police report says.

The man walked away behind a fence. Police then heard three random shots. He then fired four more times toward police. “I heard the distinct sound of the bullet hissing by,” one officer says in the report. “I believed ——- was trying to kill me and my fellow officers.”

Announcements were made over the officer’s car public address system that the suspect was under arrest. More police arrived, along with a Kitsap County SWAT team. Soon after the suspect was in custody.

Another officer’s report says the shooter didn’t like that the couple was building a house next door.

Rape charge

A 32-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court May 31 charged with second-degree rape.

Bail was set at $100,000. If convicted he faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine.

The victim told Kitsap deputy that she met the man on Myspace in 2010, she went to his house, and he forced her to have sex with him. A friend’s mom took the woman to the hospital. She was 14 and the man 19 at the time.

On May 15, 2023 DNA was finally matched to the man, who also was arrested that same year in 2010 for third-degree rape of a child. Records say the man had sex with the 15-year-old several times, resulting in her pregnancy.

Woman arrested

A 47-year-old Port Orchard woman was in Superior Court May 30 facing charges of second-degree assault.

She was held on $50,000 bail. If convicted she faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

At almost 1 a.m. May 29 officers were dispatched to a store on Bethel Road SE. A man reported that the woman tried to run over his father and him with her truck. Earlier they had gotten into an argument in the parking lot. The woman, who was intoxicated, drove off through the parking lot at a high rate of speed, the police report says.

The victim provided video footage of part of the event. The woman was later arrested at her home.

No-contact order

A 28-year-old Bremerton man was charged in Superior Court June 1 with first degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Bail was set at $100,000. If convicted he faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

On May 30, police were dispatched to Montgomery Avenue in Bremerton for violation of a domestic violence no contact order. The suspect left the scene but was pulled over about 10 minutes later on a traffic stop. He was placed under arrest when a firearm was spotted.
