The Bainbridge Island Police Department arrested three island residents late Thursday evening as part of an on-going investigation related to island burglaries and drug trafficking.

On Friday, Dashiell Wood, 22, was charged with three accounts of residential burglary, and Corbin Olerud, 22, was charged with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute.

A third Bainbridge man, Austin Olmsted, 23, was arrested on a no-bail warrant issued by the state Department of Corrections.

The arrests were the result of two separate search warrants served on island residences on Sept. 30. At the homes, police said they discovered a large quantity of heroin, cash and drug paraphernalia as well as evidence related to the burglaries.

Police said the burglaries began three months ago and have consistently occurred late at night while residents are home and often asleep. The suspects entered the homes through unlocked doors and windows. Burglary attempts were interrupted by homeowners twice last week.

Commander Sue Shultz said Monday that police believe at least one of the individuals is responsible for an estimated seven burglaries, but other people may be involved. Shultz added that additional victims may have had their homes burglarized but are unaware of it.
