Anna Teiche, a Bainbridge Island resident who is studying studio art at California Polytechnic State University, had two paintings selected for the university’s annual juried student show.

“Sophistication” received an honorable mention in the 2-D category. Her other entry is titled “Two of us on the Run.”

“The Annual Juried Student Exhibition is a chance for students to participate in a real world, non-academic art selection process that results in a show that is well-rounded in content and artistic process,” said Garet Zook, who organized the display, which ran from April 14 to May 13.

Judges Nick Wilkenson of Left Field gallery and Peter Ayers of Moshpit Digital graphic design, both based in San Luis Obispo, were looking for “pieces that had an original touch, as opposed to artworks that you could tell were made for a class assignment,” Zook said.

Teiche’s winning pieces were part of 53 artworks culled from nearly 160 submitted for the popular show that featured 3-D, 2-D, sculptures, paintings, graphic design and photographic entries.

“I was impressed by the level of talent and quality of work submitted,” Wilkenson said. “It was important for me to juror a show that not only was a cohesive presentation, but also accurately represented the character and essence of work that has been produced by Cal Poly students.”

Best of show awards were presented in four categories: photography, 2-D and 3-D artworks and graphic design.

“I think for all students to have their work selected to be in the student show is a sign of validation,” said Zook, the gallery director.
