Health District: 3 COVID-19 deaths linked to hospital outbreak

2 of the deaths were Kitsap residents with ‘underlying health conditions’

Kitsap Public Health officials confirmed that there have been three COVID-19 associated deaths associated with the outbreak at St. Michael Medical Center, two of whom were Kitsap County residents.

According to the health district, all three deaths were among patients with “underlying health conditions” and the median age of those who died was 78-years-old.

To date, public health officials have confirmed 73 cases of COVID-19 from the hospital outbreak, 46 from staff, 24 from patients, and three others. The two Kitsap County deaths were already included in the overall 12 virus-associated deaths since March.

Additionally, two new positive cases of the coronavirus were confirmed by the health district Monday, bringing the countywide total of positive cases to 1,108.

A total of 33 cases are considered “active” by the district, meaning they are “confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases … participating in daily monitoring.” Another 106 were categorized as “active contacts” or individuals determined to be close contacts of a lab-confirmed case and are participating in daily monitoring. The total number of negative tests is 33,640.

In July, 422 infections were confirmed by the health district -more that month than any other month since the pandemic began. In August, 311 cases were confirmed.

Of the 1,108 total cases, 37 have been reported on Bainbridge Island, 345 in Bremerton, 277 in Central Kitsap, 177 in North Kitsap and 272 in South Kitsap.

The breakdown for confirmed positive cases per 100,000 residents in each age category in the past 30 days is as follows:

0 – 9: 53 (6 percent)

10 – 19: 57 (6 percent)
