Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

SEPTEMBER 9

4:33 p.m. A Bainbridge resident reported receiving a check for $4,500 from a supposed “mystery shopper” company. He was instructed to cash the check, spend $400 and send the remainder back to the company. Instead the man turned the check over to police.

SEPTEMBER 10

9:57 a.m. A Bainbridge High School student said a classmate had stolen a pair of headphones from him the day before. The students had fought in a field near the school water tower, over money the reporting student had allegedly stolen from the suspect the year before. A third student broke up the fight, but the suspect student took the headphones, which were lying on the ground, saying they were collateral for the debt. The suspect was interviewed by police, who recovered the headphones. A report was forwarded to prosecutors for possible charging.

SEPTEMBER 11

1:17 p.m. A Bainbridge bicyclist pedaling southbound on SR-305 north of Day Road crashed after hitting a large tree branch on the shoulder of the roadway. The cyclist was taken away by ambulance.

2:14 p.m. A city employee turned in a purple, Nine West brand wallet found at Waterfront Park. It contained both U.S. and Chinese currency, an intermediate Washington driver’s license, a Kentucky driver’s license and several credit cards bearing different last names. The wallet was entered into storage for safekeeping.

10:01 p.m. Police and fire responded to Madison Avenue North and Valley Road where a juvenile male had reportedly lit the roadway on fire. There was no fire or damage to the roadway when units arrived. A witness said she was slowing at the intersection when she saw a barefoot teenager ignite an accelerant on the road, then dash off down Valley Road. Flames were reportedly two feet tall. The witness and her boyfriend followed the juvenile in their car and saw him hiding beside a parked truck. The juvenile pelted their car with a handful of gravel as they drove past then ran off again. Damage to the car from the gravel barrage was estimated at $500. Police interviewed residents of surrounding homes, but all reported that their children had been asleep at the time.
