Fish to leave Bainbridge High, offered job as principal at Arlington

The revolving door in the principal’s office at Bainbridge High is spinning once again.

Duane Fish will be leaving his post as principal to take a new job as principal at Arlington High School.

The school board for the Arlington School District picked Fish as their new principal for Arlington High at a special board meeting this week.

Fish, who has been at BHS since July 2015, was one of two finalists for the position. The other finalist was Christine Hino-josa, the current interim principal at Arlington High.

Officials from the Arlington School District made a site visit to BHS the week before Spring Break.

At the Arlington board’s meeting on Monday, April 10, the board chose Fish for the principal’s post.

“Duane brings five years of experience as a successful principal in two school districts and six years of high school teaching experience in the area of career and technical education. We are excited to have him join our administration team,” said Arlington Schools Superintendent Chrys Sweeting.

Fish, who previously served from 2012 to 2015 as the principal of Lawrence Junior/Senior High School in Lawrence, Michigan before coming to Bainbridge Island, was hired in early 2015 to be the permanent replacement for BHS Principal Mary Alice O’Neill.

O’Neill was made interim principal at BHS in May 2014. She replaced Jake Haley, a 28-year veteran of Bainbridge schools who took over as BHS principal in July 2013 after the retirement of Brent Peterson.
