Deadline nears for Kitsap Audubon scholarship applications

The Kitsap Audubon Society is now accepting applications from Kitsap County residents for four scholarships totaling $6,000.

The $3,000 Ann Sleight Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a Kitsap County student who has successfully completed at least one year toward an academic degree in a field related to Kitsap Audubon’s mission, such as environmental science, forestry, marine or wildlife biology.

Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating Kitsap high school seniors planning to pursue a two-year certificate or four-year degree in a field related to Kitsap Audubon’s mission.

Officials said selections will be based on quality of application responses, academic history, letters of recommendation, and evidence of interest in the chosen field through related projects and activities.

Applications must be postmarked by Saturday, March 16. Award recipients will be notified by May 1.
