City collecting socks for the homeless this winter

Beginning in January, the city of Bainbridge Island will be collecting socks for three months as part of WeCount’s “Boxes of Socks” program. The nonprofit has installed a dozen boxes throughout Seattle providing free, clean socks to anyone in need of them this winter.

The city of Bainbridge Island will be adopting the sock box at the Seattle Ferry Terminal. Socks can be donated at city hall or arrangements can be made for socks to be picked up at the Bainbridge Island or Seattle terminal by contacting Kellie Stickney at Bainbridge Island City Hall.

The city is also hoping to identify local agencies or schools that might be willing to serve as additional collection spots.

Organizations interested in helping should contact Stickney at 206-780-3741 or kstickney@bainbridgewa.gov. Volunteers are needed to collect socks and to refill the box at the Seattle Ferry Terminal.
