The Kitsap County Fire Marshal has lifted the burn ban for the county, including Bainbridge Island.

Fires in home fireplaces and stoves used for heating were never an issue in the ban, rather outdoor recreational fires were of concern, according to Bainbridge Island Fire Marshal Luke Carpenter.

Now outdoor fires within a 3-foot footprint are OK.

“On Bainbridge Island only recreational fires are allowed,” Carpenter said. “You can only burn dry firewood; not yard waste, garbage, clippings and stuff like that.”

Even though rain has returned to the area, Carpenter still notes that caution is always needed around any fire.

“Always be careful,” he said. “It will take a while for moisture to get into trees … so there is always a danger and people should be aware.”
