BIMA festival takes place with 4 events in May

The annual MOMENTUM Festival at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is set for next month.

Kicking it off will be a concert May 14 at 6 p.m. with Brazilian guitarists Ze’ Paulo Becker and Nando Duarte.

May 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. Susan Lieu will present, “140 LBS: How Beauty Killed my Mother.” Her nationally acclaimed one-woman hybrid-presentation show explains how her mother was subjected to medical negligence while being operated on by a plastic surgeon. She later went into a coma and died. Nineteen years later Lieu sifted through thousands of pages of depositions to learn the impossible ideal of Vietnamese feminine beauty.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 21 there will be a Mario Kart 8 Tournament. The event will pit 16 contestants in a single-elimination race. The early start is for those 12 and younger, the later for 13 and older. Entry fee is $10; spectators are free. Registration is required for both.

The final event is May 22 from 2-4 p.m. by Indie-folk and synthpop artist Tomo Nakayama.
