Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents. See an interactive map of incidents below.
JULY 13
11:18 a.m. A Bainbridge woman was observed by employees of a High School Road store attempting to place beer and wine in her purse. The woman told an officer that she planned to pay for the alcohol, valued at $17.77, but the officer found only $10 in her purse. She was cited.
JULY 14
7:26 p.m. Three teens were contacted by police after a janitor saw them throwing objects off the roof of a North Madison Avenue school building. The teens told an officer that they thought it was OK for them to be on the roof. “Everyone else does it,” one said. School administrators declined to press charges.
JULY 16
1:46 p.m. Patio furniture was reported stolen from a home on Washington Avenue. Two chairs, a wooden table and a resin bowl were missing. The resident said the chairs were “vintage” and formed from a “special metal for astronauts.” She placed the value of each at $500. The table was estimated at $600 and the bowl at $1,200. The woman said she had hired transient workers for yard chores in the past but not recently. A neighbor mentioned that it was odd that someone could steal items off the porch because the woman’s four dogs were usually unchained, and were known to attack strangers. No suspects.
4:28 p.m. A Bainbridge driver said she was distracted by “scratching her leg” when her Ford Focus rearended a Ford F-150 stopped for a light at Day Road and SR-305. No injuries were reported.
5:15 p.m. A Saab 900 rearended a Chrysler Sebring on SR-305 near Seabold Church Road. No injuries were reported. The driver of the Saab was cited for inattention and driving without insurance.
JULY 17
8:49 a.m. A delivery truck became entangled with a low-hanging cable on Cascade Avenue, knocking out power to service residences. A Comcast crew responded and freed the truck. The company said cable would need to be replaced across the road.
8:08 p.m. Police were contacted after a car was seen driving erratically on southbound SR-305. An officer pulled in behind the vehicle, which was driving in the southbound shoulder near High School Road, and activated emergency lights. The suspect vehicle forged ahead at 25 mph before finally coming to a stop near Vineyard Lane. The officer noted a strong odor of alcohol upon contacting the driver, a Seattle woman. The driver had trouble locating her driver’s license and at one point stopped and asked the officer to remind her what she was looking for. The woman said she was on her way home from her mother’s house in Bremerton, and admitted to having drunk some wine earlier. The woman performed poorly on field sobriety tests and the officer aborted a walking test for fear she would fall. She agreed to take a portable breath test but then refused to blow into the straw. The woman was arrested for driving under the influence. She was booked into Kitsap County Jail.
JULY 18
12:09 a.m. An officer stopped a Honda Civic on northbound SR-305 after observing it driving between 10 and 20 mph under the speed limit and veering across the lane. The Honda pulled over in the middle of the intersection with West Port Madison Road, and the officer contacted its driver, a Bellingham woman. The woman’s speech was somewhat slurred, and she tried to take a drink from a water bottle during the interview, spilling it on herself in the process. She told the officer she had drunk two glasses of wine with dinner. The woman agreed to a portable breath test and registered a blood alcohol content of 0.092. She had trouble with field sobriety tests and declined a one-leg stand test, citing a yoga injury. The woman was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Kitsap County Jail.
JULY 19
8:32 p.m. A Ford pickup collided with a Volkswagen Jetta following a road-rage incident on northbound SR-305. The driver of the Ford, a Seattle man, reportedly became angry after the Volkswagen merged in front of him from the right lane after crossing High School Road. The Ford veered into the right shoulder and began driving alongside the Volkswagen. The driver of the Ford then apparently realized he was running out of shoulder to drive on and veered back into the roadway, clipping the nose of the Volkswagen. No injuries were reported. The Ford’s driver was cited for passing on the right.
JULY 20
4:40 p.m. A real estate agent interrupted a drinking party at a vacant home for sale on Rolling Bay Walk. The agent said she checked in on the residence and found the home’s back door open and a bottle of wine missing from a kitchen counter. She walked upstairs to the master bedroom, where a man carrying a beer exited a closet. A second man was found on the first floor. She told both to leave and said she was calling the police. Both were described as “preppy looking” men in their early 20s. The agent found nothing missing and recovered the bottle of wine from the master bedroom. The case was forwarded to detectives.
