Bainbridge island schools win highest honor

Four Bainbridge Island Schools were among the recipients of achievement honors from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The Bainbridge schools recognized for their achievement by OSPI are Captain Johnston Blakely Elementary, Captain Charles Wilkes Elementary, Odyssey Multiage Program and Ordway Elementary.

The four schools were acknowledged for their achievements in overall excellence, high Progress, english language arts growth and math growth.

The awards use the Washington State Achievement Index and are based upon statewide assessment data for the three previous years. The Achievement Index measures school performance, emphasizing improvement and recognition.

“These schools help Washington lead the way in innovative education and access to high-quality learning opportunities. To all of those honored, thank you for your dedication to Washington students, families, and the future,” said Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal.

Schools were recognized for their achievement in seven categories: Overall excellence; high progress; english language arts growth; math growth; extended graduation rate; english language acquisition; closing the achievement gap.

“It is wonderful for our students and staff to be recognized for their hard work with the OSPI Achievement Awards for Overall Excellence and High Progress,” said Amii Pratt, principal of Charles Wilkes Elementary.

“We also recognize that it is certainly not the only indicator of student success. We know that it will not show us how creative a child is, what a great friend they are, if they excel in the arts or how they practice kindness,” she added.
