The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art has announced its official opening day: Friday, June 14.

Officials plan to announce the opening exhibitions and other programming in April.

But while construction is steadily heading toward completion, the museum is still seeking financial donations to pay for it. Museum officials said there is still $1.2 million left to raise. The museum is launching a final push for donations, asking islanders and more to help close the funding gap before the June opening.

The building has been under construction on the corner of Highway 305 and Winslow Way for two years. Phase One of the museum, and auditorium, was completed in 2011 and has been used for community events.

By the end of 2012, museum officials were able to raise $1.5 million dollars for the effort.

Once complete, the museum will stand two stories high and span 20,000 square feet. Two art galleries, a bistro, conference room, two classrooms and a green rooftop garden and patio will be among the features of the museum.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for opening day. And from June 14 to July 4, the museum will have an open house for the public.

Admission to the museum will be free.
