Bainbridge Island briefs

Concert series

Summer Courtyard Concerts at the Pavilion, located at 403 Madison Avenue North, will take place every Saturday from 6-8 p.m. from July 5 through Aug. 30.

The concerts feature local Bainbridge Island musicians.

Art reception

A group exhibition honoring the island’s landscapes, landmarks, and life through the eyes of local artists will take place 6-8 p.m. July 5 at JG Art Gallery on Winslow Way.

Participants can meet the artists and enjoy a glass of wine, per a news release.

Painting demonstration

A demonstration of plein air painting by Brooke Borcherding will take place July 11 and July 26 from 3-6 p.m. at JG Art Gallery.

Borcherding’s artwork reflects her intuitive affinity for color and dynamic composition, a news release states. Her “deconstructed” style has been described as a modern take on pointillism or a painterly version of blown-up computer pixels.

Annual swim relay

The annual Arms Around Bainbridge relay swim around the island will be held Aug. 16.

The event is a fundraiser for AAB, a crisis support system for island residents facing financial hardship due to illness. Participants swim legs of the course, with kayakers and powerboats providing support.

Marriage license fees increase

Couples planning to marry can get a license in Kitsap County for $72 through July 25.

After that day, however, legislation (HB 1498) approved in the last session is increasing that fee to $172.

Couples are encouraged to start the marriage license process by filling out an application online. Go to the Marriage License page for a link to the application and more information about getting a marriage license in Kitsap County.

A Washington marriage license is valid beginning three days after the license is paid for and ending after 60 days.

Fatal collision

An 83-year-old Poulsbo man is dead following a two-car vehicle collision on Highway 3 near Gorst June 28.

The deceased was driving northbound when he crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle heading south, per Washington State Patrol.

The 43-year-old driver of the other vehicle, a man from Port Orchard, was injured and transported to Tacoma General Hospital. A 5-year-old boy was also in the vehicle but was uninjured.
