New tennis courts

Community members are invited to the official opening of two new tennis courts at Sakai Park June 28 at 1 p.m.

The day will recognize court sponsors and feature matches between local players, activities for kids and adults, prizes, cookies and drinks, and much more, per a news release.

Motorcycle fatalities

Two people from Sequim died following a motorcycle crash on Highway 16 near Port Orchard June 14, the Washington State Patrol reported.

A 65-year-old male, the driver of the motorcycle, and a 68-year-old female, the passenger, were traveling eastbound on Hwy 16 just west of Tremont Street when the motorcycle lost control and came to rest on the right shoulder of the road. Both were declared dead on arrival.

Both were wearing helmets. The cause of the crash is under investigation, per WSP.

Year of the Rural

Kitsap County’s Department of Community Development is hosting three community workshops in June to gather input on the broader Year of the Rural initiative, focusing on the Rural and Resource Chapter and possible code updates.

South Kitsap: June 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Kitsap County Administration Building, 619 Division St, Port Orchard

Central Kitsap: June 25, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Eagle’s Nest Community Room, 1195 NW Fairgrounds Rd, Bremerton

North Kitsap: June 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Village Green Community Center, 26159 Dulay Rd NE, Kingston

All workshops offer both a hybrid presentation from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and in-person workshop opportunities from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Virtual participation is available through the Zoom link at kcowa.us/YearOfTheRural.
