Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

JULY 2

2:32 p.m. An elderly Bainbridge couple reported that their adopted daughter, whom they had not had spoken with in many years, was attempting to extort property from them. The daughter had contacted the father in person in May, and told him she she felt she was “owed” the family’s farm. The couple said the daughter had harassed them by phone over the following weeks. The daughter insinuated that they had abused her when she was a child and said she would file criminal charges and write a book if they did not give her the family farm. A report was forwarded to adult protective services.

6:08 p.m. A Rose Avenue resident reported that two neighborhood dogs crossed an invisible fence and attacked her dog while she was walking it. She said her dog was bitten three times but did not sustain injuries. The resident said she had spoken to the neighbor in the past about her aggressive dogs. An officer attempted to contact the dogs’ owner, but no one answered the door. She later contacted the officer by phone and said the story of the dog attack was “funny” because it was actually the other resident’s dog that had attacked her dogs in the past. A report was forwarded to Animal Control for review.

JULY 3

10 a.m. A resident of Point White Drive called 911 to report a side light next to her front door had been broken by an unknown object. The sidelight was protected from the street by a solid wall, and the responding officer suspected the damage could have been caused inadvertently by a landscaper using a leaf blower. Cost for replacing the sidelight was estimated at $500.

9:58 p.m. Police arrested an intoxicated juvenile at the street fair. A small bag of marijuana and a pipe were found, along with an ID card belonging to his older brother. He was booked into Kitsap County Jail.

10:45 p.m. Officers and aid responded to a report of a rollover accident on Moran Road near Yaquina Avenue. Officers found a Toyota Highlander upside-down in a ditch with significant damage to all its sides. The driver and passengers were interviewed at the scene, and only minor injuries were reported. They had all been wearing seatbelts, and side airbags had deployed. The driver said he was headed northbound on Yaquina Avenue and lost control as he passed a second vehicle full of friends. The SUV rolled over on Moran Road, clipped a power pole and slid for another 100 feet before stopping in the ditch. Crimes related to the incident included reckless driving, improper passing and failure to obey a stop sign.

JULY 4

2:47 p.m. Four young men were spotted viewing the parade from a rooftop on Winslow Way. An officer scrambled onto an adjacent roof and asked the group if they had permission to be on the roof. They did not, but said they had been on the same roof the previous Fourth of July and thought it would be OK. The officer escorted the youths to access point for the roof and turned them over to another officer. The juveniles were informed that they could be charged with trespass if the building’s owner decided to press charges. The second officer, who had been watching from the street, said he had seen one in the group jump to the ground and flee before they were contacted. Approximately 45 minutes later officers were advised that a 19-year-old male had called from Bainbridge Performing Arts to request aid for a foot he had broken while jumping from a rooftop. The aid unit could not locate the man when it arrived.

4:04 p.m. Police responded to a High School Road store where two juveniles had reportedly stolen a package of thick-cut steaks and a bottle of Nature Made vitamins before fleeing on foot. An employee confronted the juveniles after observing them leaving the store with the items, but they bolted in opposite directions on High School Road. The goods were valued at $90.
