The city of Bainbridge Island has started its search for a firm that can finish the design plans for the makeover of Waterfront Park and help oversee the construction project.

The city issued a “request for qualifications” from interested companies on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The city has been talking about the park makeover since last year, and the council recently approved funding for the design and construction of the park project.

A preliminary design for the park project includes a picnic pavilion, analemmatic sundial, arbor and benches, rowing club building and other improvements.

The city is planning to spend $2.2 million on the park and city dock project over the next year.

Most of the money, approximately $1.6 million, will come from the city’s settlement with Washington State Ferries. Approximately $638,000 for the project has been earmarked from the city’s general fund.

The council approved $1 million in spending next year for the Waterfront Park project, and $220,000 for the city dock project, in October.

Bainbridge has also budgeted $1.85 million for the dock project in 2016.

The city is seeking a firm to complete the design and construction documentation, plus assistance with permitting, putting the project out to bid and oversight of the construction in an advisory role.

According to the city’s RFQ, companies must submit a 20-page application by Wednesday, Dec. 10.
