Even with the distraction of a fire alarm before the third quarter, the Bainbridge girls basketball team got some big performances from Brittany Gray and Emily Farrar as the Spartans defeated the West Seattle Wildcats 73-49 in the opening round of the Metro League tournament.

Both teams started slow, but Bainbridge found itself up 15-6 after one.

In the second and third quarter, the Spartans exploded for 50 points to end any chance of the Wildcats coming back.

Gray finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Farrar scored 17 points and connected on three three point shots.

Lindsay Bratonia added 10 points while Megan Burris had four points, four assists, four steals and 11 rebounds.

Caitlyn Salo had five points and eight assists.

Bainbridge shot 47 percent from the field and forced West Seattle into 25 turnovers, 17 of them by steal.

The Spartans now play Nathan Hale at Nathan Hale Wednesday. If they win, they play Saturday at 11 a.m. for the fifth/sixth seed to districts at Seattle Pacific University.

If they lose, they play Thursday at 6 p.m. at SPU in a loser-out game.
