Bainbridge blotter | Speeding teen + wet road = car crash

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SATURDAY, MARCH 18

12:10 a.m. The father of a 17-year-old Bainbridge girl called 911 after getting a call from his daughter after she had been in a car accident in the 11300 block of Meadowmeer Circle.

Police arrived at the crash scene and contacted the driver, who said she was driving faster than the posted speed limit and lost control of the 1997 Honda Accord because it was wet and dark. She said she tried to regain control of the car but it went into a 180-degree spin. The Honda then hit a mailbox and a cable box by the side of the road.

The vehicle was towed at the owner’s request.

The teen was cited for inattentive driving.

2:11 p.m. A boat was reportedly sinking near Point Monroe.

Police found the boat’s owner and helped remove excess water from the vessel. They also restarted the bilge pumps, raised the boat above the waterline and made sure it was securely moored. The owner, a 76-year-old Bainbridge man, was advised to call a marine repair service to patch the vessel’s damaged hull.
