11:42 a.m. A resident told police his PC had contracted a virus a few weeks ago. He thought he had resolved the problem when he updated his computer’s security program.

However, he recently logged on to PayPal and was asked a series of security questions, including his Social Security number, date of birth and ATM card number.

Apparently the information was sent to the perpetrator and not PayPal. Within hours, a payment the resident did not authorize was sent to Hilltop Cellular, which wiped out his account.

1:47 p.m. A resident on Hidden Cove Road reported there had been at least four instances of mail theft from her mailbox. The woman operates a business out of her home.

Several of her customers confirmed sending payment to her mailbox. However, she told police, she never received a $4,000 check mailed in November. Nor did she receive checks of $223 and $675 in December. Also, she said, she did not receive a $200 check sent to her for Christmas.

The checks had never been cashed.
