Bainbridge blotter | My boyfriend makes me steal stuff

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 2

2:12 p.m. A blue-and-silver bicycle was found on the ground near Safeway. A 35-year-old Bainbridge man reported it to police, saying he’d seen the bike lying there for at least five hours. He asked if he could keep it.

The bike was “old and beat up” looking. Police accepted it as found property and checked for reports of a stolen bike of similar description, but found none.

4 p.m. Police were called to a theft at Safeway.

Store employees told police that a woman had stolen several bottles of alcohol and walked east on High School Road. She had, they said, done it before.

Police found the woman, 43, of Kingston, crossing Highway 305 and walking toward the McDonald’s restaurant.

When asked for an ID, the woman rummaged in her purse for a moment and then admitted to having stolen two bottles of rum and one bottle of vodka. They were also in her bag.

The woman was arrested. She told police her boyfriend makes her steal stuff sometimes. The woman was trespassed from the store and taken to jail.

The total cost of the stolen merchandise was $89.19.
