Bainbridge blotter | Forged check

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

TUESDAY, DEC. 11

8:59 a.m. A 56-year-old Bainbridge Island woman called police to report a case of fraud.

The woman said she noticed, while reviewing her bank account activity, a check and been cashed for $1,500, which she did not recall writing. When she looked at the hyperlinked image of the check she saw it had been made out to a water delivery service. She said she had written a check to that company for $15, and the image showed someone had crudely forged the check, revising the amount to $1,500.

The woman said the check was most likely stolen from her outgoing mail.

Police spoke with the bank, who said they’d cover the woman’s loss. The endorsement on the check was “Anthony,” and the deposit had been done as a mobile transaction.

A report was filed, and police spoke with the bank’s fraud investigation department.
