Bainbridge blotter | Do not pass Go

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 8

1:23 a.m. A 56-year-old Bainbridge Island man was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Police saw the man’s vehicle speeding on Madison Avenue. While following it, police saw the man drive occasionally into the oncoming lane of Ihland Place. When they turned on their lights he drove rapidly around a nearby corner in an apparent attempt to get away.

Eventually, the driver pulled over. When an officer approached the car, the driver did not at first acknowledge the presence of the officer. The officer knocked on the window and the driver rolled it down, smelling of alcoholic beverages. His eyes were watery.

Asked for his license and insurance info, the man provided the license only, then asked what else the officer needed. After being reminded, he provided his insurance paperwork.

The man admitted he’d been drinking with friends at a downtown Winslow restaurant/bar. He refused to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested. He asked to speak with his lawyer, who could not be reached. Then, he agreed to talk with a public defender.

At the jail, the driver agreed to provide breath samples, which revealed he had a BAC of about .168.

The man was booked.
