Bainbridge blotter | No time to relax on Thanksgiving

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter:

Sunday, Nov. 9

11:11 p.m. Police responded to a family dispute after a son punctured his mother’s car tire with a kitchen knife.

The son had asked his mother for a ride to his university to register because he did not want to damage the paint job on his car with highway debris.

His father needed the family car for work, though. At this, the son became angry. The two were in the kitchen at the time of the argument, and he began throwing food items. He poured lemonade on his mother and threw a piece of pumpkin cheesecake at her.

He then walked into the garage. The mother said she heard a pop and rushing air. She found her car’s left front tire was punctured and deflated. A kitchen knife was left in the garage entrance.

Police caught up with her son down the road in his car. He was arrested for assault and malicious mischief.

Monday, Nov. 10

10:49 a.m. A citizen reported that his vehicle was stolen from its parking spot at the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal.

After police contacted OnStar, though, the vehicle was located at a Poulsbo tow yard. The car owner’s wife had parked it in a Washington State Ferry employee-only space the previous day.

11:09 a.m. Wooden stumps were pulled out of the ground at an island daycare playground. They were found tossed around the property, and the bell to call the children was found missing.

Parts of the fence were also broken, and someone etched the word “books” into the front window at the center.

5:53 p.m. Several cars parked at the Harbor Square Condominiums were prowled. The facilities manager reported that the prowler damaged the door handle to the parking garage and two additional door locks inside the garage that access storage lockers.

The estimated cost to repair the damage is $500.
