Bainbridge blotter | Checks in the (stolen) mail

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SUNDAY, MARCH 22

10:16 a.m. Police were called after stolen mail was found in blackberry bushes next to Madrona Drive NE.

The mail was still in the bushes when an officer arrived. The mail belonged to an 80-year-old woman who lived nearby. She told police that she had put those pieces of mail in the mailbox the day earlier, and the mail contained multiple checks on bills she had to pay, including one to CenturyLink for $120.55 and another to Puget Sound Energy for $723.11.

The woman was told to call her bank to have the checks cancelled.

Police found other pieces of mail, from a business on Madison Avenue and a different resident on Madrona Drive NE, that had been stolen, as well.
