Bainbridge blotter | Caught on camera

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 2

7:59 a.m. A vehicle was broken into and a backpack stolen from inside it while parked in the lot of the Safeway on High School Road.

A 20-year-old store employee, of Bremerton, showed police her car, a 2005 Hyundai Sonata, which had it’s front passenger window smashed.

She said she’d previously been in her car during an earlier break and then returned later, on another break, to find the window smashed and her backpack missing. The bag contained her wallet, she said, plus her driver’s license and ATM cards.

She told police employees had seen an unknown man lurking around employee vehicles recently. Surveillance footage showed a man, not the same one seen lurking about previously, going in the direction of the woman’s car at about the time the theft would have occurred, though her car is actually off-camera so the incident was not recorded.

A report was filed.
