Bainbridge blotter | Bed bugs in the apartment

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

MONDAY, AUG. 20

6 p.m. Police were called to an altercation in the area of Walt’s Market in Lynwood. A fight had broken out in a nearby apartment between a man, 70, and his female guest, 60.

He said the argument began because she was complaining about the large number of bed bugs in the apartment and smoking inside. He took the cigarette away from her, he said, and there was some pushing.

The woman said she’d been staying with the man for a few days as he needs help, does not take his medication regularly and does not bathe. She was, she said, in touch with adult protective services. She agreed the fight had been about the state of the apartment, saying the man was upset she did not want to move in.

When the pushing began the woman said she picked up her phone and threatened to call 911.

The man then tried to take the phone, saying he wanted to call 911.

Police told him he wasn’t allowed to interfere with anybody trying to call 911 for any reason. He said he understood.

The woman said she was going to leave in the morning, as the place was not livable by her standards.
