Bainbridge blotter | A lighter case of crime

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SATURDAY, MAY 4

12:18 p.m. A 26-year-old Bainbridge Island man was arrested at Town & Country Market in downtown Winslow after attempting to shoplift a disposable lighter, worth about $2.

Police were called to the store by the market’s loss prevention officer, who was holding the man after catching him trying to steal the lighter. They were arguing, and he said the man was trying to leave and so he may have to handcuff him.

When police arrived they found the suspect indeed handcuffed.

The store employee uncuffed the man and police took him into custody and arrested him for shoplifting. Upon searching the man, they found two bags of a clear crystalline substance in his wallet they believed to be illegal drugs.

Upon checking, they also found the man had several open warrants, including a felony escape warrant from the Department of Corrections and an assault warrant from Port Orchard and Bainbridge.
