Monday, March 16

8:47 a.m. A 53-year-old Bainbridge Island man was riding his bike to work in Poulsbo when he saw a black case on the side of the road about 100 yards south of Reitan Road. The man opened the case and found a small handgun inside.

He called 911 when he got to work. An officer came and took the gun and the two loaded magazines that were with the weapon (one held 10 rounds and the other held six rounds).

Police checked the serial number on the gun, but couldn’t find records or information on the owner.

Sunday, March 15

12:25 p.m. A 17-year-old Bainbridge girl in a 2001 Mazda on Reitan Road pulled out in front of a driver going north on Highway 305.

The second driver, a 41-year-old woman in a 2007 Toyota, was unable to stop in time and hit the Mazda, which spun around several times before coming to a stop.

The teenager did not have a driver’s license and police determined she had an expired learner’s permit. She also did not have picture identification or car insurance.

The driver of the second car complained of shoulder, arm and neck pain and was taken by the fire department to Harrison Hospital. Her car was impounded.

The teen driver received multiple citations, including one for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
