Art museum cancels March events in wake of COVID-19 outbreak

All March events slated to be held at the Bainbridge Island Musem of Art have been canceled or postponed, according to an official announcement Tuesday.

However, BIMA is staying open during regular hours (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), though officials are asking those who are planning to attend but are ill to stay at home and get well first.

“As the situation surrounding the COVID–19 outbreak changes, we are committed to staying up-to-date and responding to recommendations from the CDC, Washington State Department of Health, and Kitsap Public Health District,” according to the message posted to the museum’s website.

“As a gathering place in this region, the health and safety of all guests, staff, volunteers, students, artists, and our extended community is of the utmost importance. Thank you for your support during this unprecedented time.”

Previously, museum officials had said events would be canceled or postponed on a case-by-case basis.

Additionally, BIMA officials said they will adapt to the ongoing outbreak by adhering to new recommended cleaning protocols for all public and work spaces, including entryways, handrails, and elevators, and are providing additional hand sanitizers throughout the museum.

Ticket and reservation holders for canceled/postponed programs and events will receive additional communications regarding new dates, credits, or refunds, according to the message.

“All of us at BIMA thank you for your help in keeping our community safe and thank you for your continued support and understanding,” officials said in the message.
