Mars 2020 Rover highlights next planetarium show

The Battle Point Astronomical Association presents the planetarium show, “Astrobiology and the Mars 2020 Rover,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Edwin E. Ritchie Observatory at Battle Point Park.

Guest speaker Lauren O’Neel, a member of the Mars 2020 science team from the University of Washington, will speak on the Mars 2020 rover and its astrobiology experiments. She is a doctorate’s candidate in Earth and Space Sciences and Astrobiology. Her interests include looking for traces of ancient life or past habitable environments preserved in rocks.

Admission is the free to association members; $2 donation suggested for nonmembers, $5 for families.

BPAstro Kids will discover all about asteroid impacts with the “Rover Engineering” with Dr. Erica at 4 and 5 p.m.

If the sky is clear, astronomers will be on hand with telescopes for public star gazing afterward.

The BPAA is a nonprofit amateur astronomy organization that operates the Ritchie Observatory and John H. Rudolph Planetarium in the Helix House at Battle Point Park.
