Island Theatre hosts ‘Meet the Playwrights’

Island Theatre will host a panel discussion and reception featuring the 10 Kitsap County playwrights whose works were chosen to be produced as part of the 2019 Ten-Minute Play Festival.

The panel event is 7 p.m. Friday, May 31 at the Bainbridge Public Library.

In works that range from serious drama to light-hearted comedy, the 10 local playwrights will offer audiences surprising reflections on modern life. From relationships to immigration, artificial intelligence to television, they capture the quirks and challenges of a world in transition.

This year’s 10 plays, and their respective authors, are: “Alexa” by Jeff Fraga; “Best Defense” by Jennifer Pippin-Montanez; “Dancing with Orion” by Diane Walker; “Devolution” by Connie J. Bennett; “Hijab” by Catherine Rush; “The Lady from Out of the Past” by Maria Viera Beatty; “One Last Chance” by Dan Rosenberg; “The Raven in the Woods” by Tamarah Rockwood; “The Rose Bowl” by Robert Craighead; and “Trans-Matters” by Eve Palay.

“Meet the Playwrights” is your chance to hear from the authors about their plays, their inspiration, and their working process, and will include time for audience Q&A.

The panel discussion will be followed by a reception, with light snacks provided.

The plays will be fully staged in three shows on Aug. 15, Aug. 16 and Aug. 17 at Bainbridge Performing Arts. For more information, visit www.islandtheatre.org.
