Independent Bookstore Day is worth the wait

Seattle Independent Bookstore Day brought out the bookworms — in the city and on the island.

At top, a line of shoppers wait for the 7 a.m. opening of The Traveler on Seattle Independent Bookstore Day on April 27. People from all around the Seattle metro area tried to visit 21 participating bookstores in one day to get a 25 percent discount at all the stores for a year, and many come first to Bainbridge. Kathy Irvin of The Traveler said the line of folks stretched all the way to Blackbird Bakery.

At bottom, a crowd also gathered outside Eagle Harbor Book Company. Victoria Irwin of Eagle Harbor Books offers a muffin to Kirsten Rogers of Seattle.
