If you’ve ever felt tired of hearing the same old guitar tunes — the same old rock bands at the local club, the same old Americana-tinged folk songs at the coffee shop — here’s something new: Ian Ethan Case and his double-neck acoustic guitar.

All the way from Vermont, the contemporary composer and guitarist comes to Bainbridge Island for a Friday night show at the Pegasus Coffeehouse.

His newest album, an epic, three-and-a-half years in the making, self-released, self-promoted masterpiece called “Into Open Land” is described as an exploration of the largely untraversed musical territory that this unique, 18-string instrument provides access to. With a style beyond even the great double-neckers like Jimmy Page and Richie Sambora, Case takes advantage of all 18 strings and both fret boards, employing his previous experience as a drummer, bassist, pianist and composer for an inventively new vein of guitar playing.

It’s entrancing to watch.

The air of classical guitar permeates the post modern instrumental overtones as Case rambunctiously weaves between fret boards, slapping and tapping the sounds of the guitar to life seemingly effortlessly in a style that you’ve likely never seen before.
