Best Bets June 22-24 | The Bainbridge Blab

Slim entertainment options this weekend, Bainbridge. The better to save up your energy for the coming hectic holiday, perhaps?

Regardless, there are still a few things to do round the Rock in the next three days, for those fun-seekers so inclined.

Here are our Best Bets:

The farmers market is, of course, going on outside city hall, starting at 9 a.m.

As always, the market will have an abundance of locally grown produce, plants, flowers, eggs, honey and wine, as well as artisan crafts, including wearables and jewelry, art glass, woodcraft, metalcraft and garden art, paintings, pastries, pottery, and hot food items from more than 35 vendors.

For more information, visit www.bainbridgefarmersmarket.com.

Saturday is also a big day at BIMA.

First, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art will host a Family Party in honor of the new exhibitions, opening later that day.

Explore the always-free galleries where, around every corner, you’ll find hands-on art projects led by BIMA, the Suquamish Museum, and KiDiMu. Meet exhibiting artists, get a tour of BIMAs extensive pop-up artists book collection, and find other surprises along the way as well.

There will be a special performance by the Lawrence Family, of the Suquamish Tribe, in the Frank Buxton Auditorium at 11 a.m.

Then, at 2 p.m., the museum’s new exhibitions are unveiled in a public opening.

Meet the artists, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and be the first to see these exciting new shows (click here for more info).

Later that day, the island’s biggest to-do is over in Lynwood.

After a long absencethe Treehouse Café will welcome back Amy LaVere, performing “country music with teeth,” at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 23.

Tickets, $15 for reserved table seating, are one sale at www.treehousebainbridge.com. The show is for those 21-and-older only.

LaVere is, as Spin Magazine said, “Part winsome alt-country gal, and part avenging angel.” She keeps going deeper, and getting better. Crossing genres like Americana, country, folk, swing and jazz, the vocalist puts her sultry soulful stamp on everything she does with relentless integrity and her exquisite voice and musicianship.

Her music has been featured on diverse media outlets that include Conan O’Brien, NPR, KBCS and KEXP.
