The Bainbridge Island Police Department will participate in National Night Out with a community party from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Sonoji Sakai Intermediate School.

The theme of National Night Out this year is “Giving Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party.”

The free event will feature hot dogs, a dunk tank with “celebrity guests,” face painting for the kids, plus a bouncy house, ice cream, police car, an ambulance, a fire vehicle, and a police boat and more.

For parents, festivities include live music, free crime and drug prevention awareness materials, and the opportunity to meet local law enforcement officers to strengthen police-community relationships.

Support is provided by local merchants and nonprofit organizations.

If you cannot attend National Night Out in-person, you can still participate in the event by leaving your front porch light on, which is a hallmark of the event.
