Cups Espresso Café in Poulsbo is having a special art exhibit of fine art photography printed on aluminum sheets and Bainbridge Island photographer Dinah Satterwhite is featuring her “Into The Light” series of light-and-motion images that border on the abstract.

Introduced in 2012, Satterwhite’s unique series of fine art photos capture Mother Nature in a tender and otherworldly way. From landscapes and coastal scenes to intimate close-ups, the final image only hints at its true source.

Satterwhite paints with her camera using available light, constantly adapting manual camera settings to playfully “lose herself” in the moment, she said. The images are practically “raw,” with minimal processing, and result in a beautiful infusion of movement and light which leave the viewer with more art than photo, and perhaps a sense of curiosity. Even the name of each photo series intertwines nature with technology, like “Vertical Download” and “Shutter Chance,” both showing now at Cups Espresso Café.

She can shoot more than a thousand photos to find the one that captures her desired emotion, color, and most importantly, the flow of light. The final image is printed in large format on metal by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets. The prints are vibrant, detailed, luminescent and durable, as well as inviting to the touch. The images are also available as canvas wraps or framed.

The special exhibit of metal photos will be on display at Cups Espresso Café through Sept. 15. Cups is located at 18881 Front St. in Poulsbo, behind Liberty Bay Books, and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
